Sun Safety

Warmer days are finally here and at WellKind School we are planning to have a lot of fun enjoying the Outdoors!

Sunshine has a lot of benefits for our bodies from sleeping better, to strengthening our immune systems and reducing stress.

A little sunshine can go a long way, but too much can be harmful for our skin.

The best defense against getting too much harmful ultraviolet radiation is a combination of protective clothing, shade, and sunscreen when possible.

Here is how we prevent too much exposure at WellKind so we can reap all the benefits of the SUN!

Covering up: Shirts, hats, shorts and pants can provide the best protection from UV rays. Remember to plan for your child to be out in the sun when you dress them in the morning. You can also send extra hats, sunglasses, or layering clothing to remain in the classroom so we can be prepared.

Shade: We love to have picnics outside by the trees, read beneath our canopies and just enjoy the breeze. We always keep infants in the shade – they are still developing the tanning pigments, known as melanin, that protect their skin.

We always plan around the sun: We go outdoors in early morning or late afternoon, when the sun is lower.

Sunscreen: WellKind School for Early Learners applies a sunscreen product that is broad spectrum with SPF 15 or higher to children when they go outside during the months of May through October and between the daytime hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Sunscreen may be applied to exposed skin, including but not limited to the face (except eyelids), tops of ears, nose, bare shoulders, arms and legs. Please check below all applicable information regarding permissions and use of sunscreen.
